OF COURSE it's a MODEL railroad
scene. But we couldn't resist including it here. One of our model
railroading friends, who also WORKS on the railroad, sent us this view of his
'WYE' Tower, resplendent in a fresh coat
of 'Penn Central Green.' WYE Tower was located in Hollidaysburg, PA, at
the "wye" where the six-mile long H&P Branch (coming down from
the mainline at Altoona's 'ALTO' Tower) joined the line leading to the Samuel
Rae Shops in Hollidaysburg to the east, and the Mule Shoe by-pass of Horseshoe
Curve to the west
(now gone, of course). You can still see the wye trackage
today on "old Route 22," along with equipment belonging to the Everett
Railroad, for which the location is the northern
terminus. The H&P is now called the Cove Secondary Track. Just
drive into Duncansville and head east. If you continue east into Hollidaysburg,
you'll come to the car shops. |

Well, if we can have the Penn Central,
why not the New Haven? But... wait a minute! THIS is a PROTOTYPE
photo here. In fact, it was taken in August, 1999, within walking
distance of The FALLSTON FLAGSTOP. This train is inbound to Conway
Yard on the NS Ft. Wayne Line. The
location is New Brighton, PA. The FL9 is Metro North's 2026, on its way
to the Juniata Shops in Altoona, PA for upgrading. The 2027 also visited
here. Here's a closer photo. |
